Spring Cleaning Time!

How many seasons will you lug out that old, tired, rickety ladder out from the garage, and risk you safety climbing up to the roof to clean out your rain gutters?  Perhaps this is the season to improve your rain gutter system with a safe, affordable leaf catching system, gutter topper, or debris catch.  Leave that rickety ladder to the trash collector, and save yourself hours of backache by logging onto Handyman Headquarters http://www.la-laborjobs.com/handyman/ .  Here you will find local, qualified, skilled Home Maintenance Contractors who can take care of all your ‘Spring Cleaning’ projects, saving you time and money.

Upgrading your rain gutters is a good start, but while you have your Handyman Headquarters Contractor up on the roof, why not ask them to perform an assessment on the roof’s overall condition?  Have the attic vents, gable vents, and plumbing vents, inspected.  Be sure these vents are free and clear of any debris left over from the winter rain and snow.

Have a fireplace? Well this is the time to have a proper inspection to check for creosote buildup, and confirming the chimney’s structural integrity.  Perhaps now might be a good time to ‘point’ the mortar, or check the glazing between the chimney bricks, or stone.  Another item is the smoke arrest, or chimney cap. Be sure it is stable, and this too should be cleaned of any creosote buildup.

After the roof has been inspected, have your Contractor examine all the windows and doors.  Check for damaged storm door and storm screen attachments that may have been damaged by the winter weather.  Inspect the window glazing, and/or factory seals on thermal glass systems.  Check to be sure all the windows and doors open and close as they should, and the window and door locks and passage sets are well lubricated and operating correctly.  Also, take a look at the door thresholds.  Confirm that they have not lifted from ice heaving, and are solidly set in place.  Now would be a good time to check any door ‘sweepers’ or door jamb insulation for replacement after annual wear and tear.

Your home may have a stucco, brick, or stone veneer.  Perhaps it is clad in vinyl, aluminum or wood.  Regardless the exterior material, have your Contractor do a close inspection of the conditions of the exterior, particularly where the exterior walls meet the eves under the roof, and along the base where the walls meet the foundation.  These two areas are most prone to insect infestation, moisture accumulation, and termites.

If any of these problems are recognized, your Handyman Headquarters Professional will be able to get the problem corrected on time, and on budget!

This is indeed the season for renewal, and your lawn and landscaping will surely be on your ‘to do’ list.  So while you are considering your spring plantings, take the time to have your irrigation/ watering system checked for any broken or clogged sprinkler heads.
